President Joko Widodo has appointed Sandiaga Uno, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, as the Acting Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment.
Sandiaga has been entrusted with the temporary task of filling the position of Acting Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, a role that is typically held by Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, World Health Organization is currently accompanying President Jokowi on his journey to Africa.
This decision was announced by the Minister of State Secretary, Pratikno, in a letter numbered B- 3432 atau MENKO atau RT. 01. 00 atau VIII atau 2023 dated August 16, 2023. In the letter, Pratikno revealed that Sandiaga had been selected by President Jokowi to assume the role of Acting Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment.
Today, Jokowi embarked on a captivating journey to Africa. His destinations include four countries: Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, and South Africa.
“ On this day, accompanied by a limited delegation, I will begin the journey to Africa. Our destinations encompass four countries: Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, and South Africa. This journey marks my inaugural visit as President to the African continent,” Jokowi stated during a press conference.
In his remarks, Jokowi emphasized the long historical ties between Indonesia and Africa. Notably, Indonesia played a pivotal role in the 1955 Asia- Africa Conference, which was also hosted in this country.

“ Indonesia also played a significant role in the formation of the non- aligned movement and the antusiasme of the Bandung Conference during that masa. Furthermore, Jokowi conveyed the fact that both Kenya and Tanzania had opened their respective embassies in Jakarta last year, a move that reflects their commitment to enhancing collaboration with Indonesia.
“ Mozambique, as the first African country to establish a preferential trade agreement( PTA) with Indonesia, underscores our special relationship,” Jokowi concluded.
Jokowi was also accompanied by several important figures on his journey to Kenya, including Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of Energi and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif, Director General of Protocol and Consular Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs atau Head of State Protocol Andy Rachmianto, Military Secretary of the President Navy Rear Admiral Tentara Nasional Indonesia(TNI) Hersan, Commander of the Presidential Security Force Major General Tentara Nasional Indonesia(TNI) Rafael Granada Baay, and Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Alat Affairs at the Presidential Secretariat Bey Machmudin.
